Because of the previously mentioned circumstances in regards to the breakdown of Dixie, the planned Sunday long race have been cancelled. Leaving among the islands and rocky shoals a vessel with a limited room for maneuvering, is something that the organizing committee of the regatta considers an unnecessary risk. Towing lasted until reaching Hanko and in the evening, along the legendary coast of the near-island, at 59 51'N, 22 55'E, the ships were given a start - two hoops on the three-mile triangular course.
Over the past few days since leaving Stockholm, teams acquired a new skill of fighting on short distances. You could say they have matured it in short races and today's six mile race was not a big surprise for them. However, something new might be the voyage from Hanko to Tallinn that is scheduled for tomorrow. However, from the tournament standpoint, the Sunday start was equally as important for each of the regatta participants. The start of the race did not bring any surprises. The first that took off were Seventh Wave ("Rosterminalugol") and "Anna" (“SMM”). They were followed by a group of 5 yachts and Evita (“CSP Ust-Luga”), Sanuk ("Nord") and "Peter I” (Rusarc) being among the last the dropping back, chose the only right solution in their situation - to seek happiness in seaward, while the others set sail along the coast.
The first hoop went in the following sequence:
«Anna», Seventh Wave, Gloria ("Ust-Luga Company"), Dixie (RZD "Krasnaya Strela"), Evita, Solitaire (”Rosmorport”), Dolorosa (PUL trans "Avos"), Galatea ("Baltinvestbank"), Sanuk and "Peter I”. The second round did not change the race leading position - the first four positions still belong to the same teams. In the second half of the fleet, small changes all in relation to the “Commercial Sea Port of Ust-Luga" performance took place letting 4 opponents overcome it on this part of the distance. After the race Evita Alexander Ilievsky skipper of the yacht commented the situation: "We did not succeed at second tacking - trying to work out wind shifts, but it was difficult to get a firm control of the vessel, so we lost two positions. And then, along the course, we made a couple more, at first glance, minor errors, which also led to the loss of two positions.”
The moorage in Hanko will not last long. Tomorrow morning is when the yacht will raise the sails and take head out to Tallinn.
