Last races in archipelago

On Saturday the regatta committee decided to repeat the success of the race that was held last night and once again giving the competition the same exact format – a short distance race this time in the area of the Snöbådan island (60 13’N, 21 07’E). In its intensity and attitude, this race was a mirror reflection of the yesterday’s race. The first – dynamic and sharp full of twists and turns, while the second a complete reverse - steady, calm and predictable.

The first race started with a false start. Evita “CSP Ust-Luga”, was already outside of the distance area even before the starting signal. Then it took a little longer than expected for the crew to make a decision whether to come back to start all over again or rather have a short sale along the distance in practice mode.In the end, a decision to come back was made, but unfortunately absolutely without any to show a decent time anymore. In the beginning, the team was going to appeal the maneuvers of “Peter I” yacht to the judges, which, in their opinion broke the rules squeezing out “Evita” giving it no other choice to but miss the start, yet, as soon as the race was over, there was no follow up. After a few island rounding races, the winner, same as before, was still “Anna”. The current state of affairs is becoming truly threatening as it is becoming more and more difficult to image a scenario that would make “Anna” lose its current point advantage. Following in a tight pack with just a breath away from each other, Seventh Wave («Rosterminalugol”), Gloria («Ust-Luga Company») and Dixie (“Russian Railways” team – “Krasnaya Strela”) broke the finish line. After ranking, “Russian Railways” – “Krasnaya Strela” took the second place.

A few minutes later, another pack with Dolorosa (JSC «PUL trans»), Solitaire (FSUE “Rosmorport”) and Galatea (“Baltinvestbank”) in it, showed up. “Nord” had pretty good results during the first stages of competition, but today it was not their lucky day – the team was among the outsiders in both races. On the shore, Valeriy Nikitin, the Russian captain of Sanuk provided some feedback regarding this minor misfortune: “I and my colleague, the Swedish skipper, are trying to interfere as little as we can except at the start. The rest of the time is when all the responsibility is fully on the crew’s shoulders. Yes, today we have made a lot of mistakes. But when you are new to something, it is obviously unrealistic to expect performance stability and excellence right away“. “Peter I” this time came second last and “Evita” having lost so much of its energy on start, did not manage to provide a strong competition finishing last.

At the start of the second race, the yachts, almost as if keeping in mind the mistakes that JSC “CSP Ust-Luga” had previously made, set sail carefully, not showing any signs or desire to get into the fight. In the end, the “Ust-Luga Company” crew, despite its far starting position, gained a significant advantage and moved ahead of the others, taking the lead at the initial stage of the race.

However, soon enough, “Anna” overtook, taking back its leading position. Events took an interesting turn when “Peter I” stared out slowly gaining its speed and halfway to finish managed to overtake three yachts. Unfortunately, the momentary advantage earned was still not enough and RUSARC’s team came last to the finishing line. Anna’s leadership is starting to become a less of a surprise which is something that this races has proved one more time earning “SMM” another victory. After her, with a noticeable lag, Seventh Wave came to the finishing line that was then followed by “ RZD” team – “Krasnaya strela”, JSC “CSP Ust-Luga” and “Rosmorport”. The “RZD” team, after having achieved great results (2nd and 3rd place) and not being able to take part in yesterday’s race, now have their spirits high up and are ready to continue fighting for the championship title. “We have a lot of surprises ready for our competitors, they just have to make sure they are ready for it!” – comments Dixie crew demonstrating their enthusiasm.

After five races, the worst result shown by each team will not be taken into consideration – these are the official racing instructions regulations. Current ranking positions as of the evening of 08.06.2013 look as follows:

1. «Anna» (“SMM”), 4 points

2. «Seventh Wave» («Rosterminalugol»), 11 points

3. «Solitaire» («Rosmorport»), 11 points
