Just a coincidence or an upsetting regatta tradition?

Just before the start of the second racing stage, Dixie representing “Red Arrow” (“Russian Railways” team) suddenly experienced an unexpected engine failure problem.

The crew had no other choice but to remain stationary, watching with sorrow their opponents’ yachts standing out to sea. Most likely, “Krasnaya strela” will have to skip the second race, but at this point the most important thing is to take immediate action, recover and continue to sail.

Whether a coincidence or not, but this is the second time when regatta fleet sacrificed a vessel to Aland: last year exactly here in Mariehamn, «Anna» (SMM team) lost its propeller going out to sea. The organizing committee is hoping that “Red Arrow” will shortly join regatta starting next stage.
