On a late Friday evening, in yacht club "Krestovskiy”, the awarding ceremony for the winners and runners-up of the International Baltic regatta “Ust-Luga Cup 2013” was over.
The race along the Hanko-Tallinn route, which ended late on Monday evening, introduced even more intrigue into the balance of power within the top three.
On Monday, June 10the the international sailing regatta “Ust-Luga Cup” came to the southern shores of the Baltic. After a 40-mile race along the Tallinn-Hanko route, its fleet moored almost in the center of the Estonian capital - the sailing harbor Old City Marina.
Because of the previously mentioned circumstances in regards to the breakdown of Dixie, the planned Sunday long race have been cancelled. Leaving among the islands and rocky shoals a vessel with a limited room for maneuvering, is something that the organizing committee of the regatta considers an unnecessary risk.
On the night from Friday to Saturday regatta fleet “Ust-Luga Cup” spent in a moderate-size cozy seaport of Nauvo which is located on the border of the The Åland Islands.
On Saturday the regatta committee decided to repeat the success of the race that was held last night and once again giving the competition the same exact format – a short distance race this time in the area of the Snöbådan island (60 13’N, 21 07’E).
The local residents that live on the island were expecting and looking forward to meet regatta. There are around thirty people living on the island and an event like this simply cannot go unnoticed of course brining some profits along with it.
After having entered the expected starting area in the region of Nyhamn (59 57’ N, 20 00’ E), the organizing committee made a decision to hold races that shorter than usual.
During the morning meeting, Andrey Hargovskiy the official competition judge announced a list of some changes that have been instructed to the sailing instruction.
Just before the start of the second racing stage, Dixie representing “Red Arrow” (“Russian Railways” team) suddenly experienced an unexpected engine failure problem.
The morning following the opening ceremony turned out to be exceptionally bright, sunny and windy – the one that truly conveys racing spirit...
Stockholm is where today the second Baltic regatta “Ust-Luga Cup” has set sail. During the solemn opening ceremony in Wasa Hamnen, the organizers have welcomed ten teams that are starting their first race tomorrow.
